Lynda Page is one of those writers I turn to when I'm after a good, but 'light' story. 'A Cut Above' doesn't disappoint. Believable characters set a good pace to the book. If you were a teenager in the early 60s, this story will be good for a nostalgic wallow. Some very interesting hairdressing history cleverly interwoven within the plot.
So, draw closer to the fire, settle into your favourite chair, tea and hot buttered toast to hand - I guarantee a few hours of a good page-turning story. - 3 of 9

A thoroughly enjoyable feel-good book with bundles of laugh-out-loud scenarious, from the deliciously funny Marilee's bodged suicide attempt right through to her fight for the return of her self-esteem and getting her life back on track.
A great summer read. - 7 of 9

Featuring Chief Inspector Barnaby from Midsomer Murders, the TV adaptation of Caroline Graham's delightful series of whodunnits set in the heart of one of many of England's country villages.
Although I soon tired of the Midsomer Murders on the television, given that it was always silly in a sweet kind of way, I decided to try this story because I was looking for something not too demanding and entertaining. Therefore, this was the first time I've read one of Miss Graham's books in this series and I was very pleasantly surprised.
The author writes well and intelligently with an engaging dry humour. Her characters are all different: good, bad, evil, normal, fun and yes, occasionally eccentric. Ms Graham turns out to be a master of twists and turns within the plot and whilst it was plain 'who-dun-most-of-it', the sub-plots and undercurrents running throughout this excellent story kept me turning the pages well into the early hours until I finished the book within 2 days of purchase.
Highly recommended - and I shall be reading as many of these Inspector Barnaby novels as I can get my hands on.

I read this book some time ago but can still remember it and might read it again (which is almost unheard of for me). I like Jill Mansell's books anyway, but I think this one is the best of the lot. The way she builds the sexual tension between the main characters is uncanny. - 9 of 9
