This is an opportunity to acquire a single issue of 'The Times History and Encyclopaedia of the War', which chronicles the history of the First World War. This monumental work was published by 'The Times' in 273 weekly parts, each 40 to 40 pages long, amounting to a total of 317 chapters. Individual issues dealt with one or more topics. The final issue appeared in July 1920, and so the complete History and Encyclopaedia covers the peace treaties which followed the First World War, as well as the course of the war itself. With numerous photographs and diagrams, in addition to text, 'The Times History and Encyclopaedia of the War' is an invaluable source of information about the First World War and its aftermath for both professional historians and those who want to extend their knowledge of this terrible conflict. The work was designed to be bound into 21 volumes of 500 pages each. Part 264 (of Vol. 21: pages 109-44), published on 7th October, 1919, deals with the mercantile marine and inland transport. It contains Chapter CCCVII (Work of the Mercantile Marine: including organization in 1918, transport of American troops, measures taken to maintain essential supplies, ships built to government ordr, shipping losses of maritime nations and tributes to the mercantile marine) and Chapter CCCVIII (Inland Transport: including work in France and Flanders, straighening a river, beating the U-boat and battlefield salvage). There are 31 black/white illustrations.
