Castaway
Title: Castaway
Description:
A new edition of the title originally published in 1983 by Gollancz. The book recounts the author's experiences living on a remote island with a man she barely knew. From the Author I wrote Castaway when I was twenty-seven, immediately after returning to 'civilisation' after spending a year on an uninhabited desert island with a stranger. The book describes this life (and perspective-) changing experience. 18 years later I decided I needed a refresher course in remote living and took my three young sons to live on a five acre dot in the Outer Solomon Islands. My most recent book, Faraway, resulted from that bizarre, surreal, terrifying and wonderful year. See details on my website. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. From the Back Cover 'Writer seeks "wife" for a year on tropical island.' The opportunity to escape from it all was irresistible. Lucy Irvine answered the advertisement - and found herself alone on a remote desert island with a 'husband' she hardly knew. Lucy Irvine fell in love with the seductive, if cruel, beauty of that untouched Eden, whose power to enslave and enchant her never slackened throughout the whole of her amazing adventure. Uncompromisingly candid and sometimes shocking, Castaway is her compulsively readable account of a desert island dream which threatened to turn into a nightmare of illness, thirst and personal antipathy. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. About the Author Lucy IrvineLucy Irvine was born on 1 February 1956 in Whitton, Middlesex. She ran away from school very early and had no full-time education after the age of thirteen. She has been employed as a charlady, monkey- keeper, waitress, stonemason's mate, life model, pastry-cook and concierge as well as having worked with disabled people and as a clerk at the Inland Revenue. She is the author of one novel, One is One, as well as Castaway and an account of her early years, Runaway. Faraway, her latest book, is her account of her year spent on a remote island in the Solomons. She has three sons and lives in the Highlands of Scotland. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
